House Refurbishment and Renovation
If your current home needs updating or you have recently bought and need to give the property an overhaul then we would be delighted to talk to you.
We have considerable experience of refurbishing properties from many different periods, and understand the different construction methods that have been used over the years. So we can seamlessly integrate the needs of modern life within the constraints of older homes.
Below are two recent examples to give you an idea of what can be achieved.
We worked with the clients on a Grade II* listed flat in Islington which has been designed in the early 1950s. The aim was to remodel the space and to refurbish it sympathetically to Lubetkin’s original concept. The design centred on the curved staircase both inside the flat and, very dramatically, in the entrance halls, that in turn reflect the curved stair wells of the surrounding Georgian properties.
We spent time with our clients to establish and interpret their vision, and managed the process throughout. This included:
- Full drawings
- a listed building planning application
- a planning appeal
- a schedule of works
- electrical and lighting design
- heating specification and layout
- cabinetry designs and supply
liaison with the clients’ suppliers including the audio visual and kitchen suppliers.
Ed & the whole team at Urban Design Build were absolutely fantastic at every stage of our full-flat renovation.
Both during the bid and the design stage they listened to what we wanted and were immensely helpful at providing useful expertise and guidance (including by talking me out of some of my more expensive ideas).
They were great with our listed building consent application (and appeal!) and in finding the perfect specialists for things like cabinets and a glass wall between the entryway and the lounge. When things went wrong (we found asbestos, for example) they solved everything quickly and without fuss, and didn’t let it delay the project too much.
They’ve also been fantastic at fixing the snags since the project finished. I couldn’t be happier with their work or their level of service, and I’d highly recommend them.’
This was a double fronted Edwardian property in Muswell Hill which had not been refurbished for some time. The client wanted a clean yet sympathetic feel with restoration of the original features with a modern twist.
We worked with the family to carry out a full refurbishment. This included the incorporation of a new master suite on the third floor which had previously been a playroom, a new games and TV room with a spiral wine cellar in the lower ground floor and a much updated and relocated kitchen.
A new cast iron staircase now provides access to the remodelled patio. A large format Douglas fir timber floor, used in the new Saatchi gallery, was installed on 3 floors and a poured resin floor in the basement.
With our extensive knowledge of specialist trades we were able to restore it back to its former glory.
